At least fifteen Southwest Georgia School Systems have announced that they will be closed Tuesday.
Mitchell, Tift, Worth, Turner, Baker, Cook, Baker, Berrien, Ben Hill, Atkinson, Colquitt, Lowndes, Early, Irwin, and Coffee county school systems have announced that their doors will be closed to students.
Mitchell
County Schools say they will be closed due to heavy rains in the area that have made certain county roads impassable, but faculty and staff are required to report to work at 9:00 AM.
Tift
County School System will also be closed as well and that faculty and staff are not expected to report.
Due to continued bad weather, road closures, and safety concerns,
Worth
County Schools say they will be closed Tuesday as well with 240-day and 230-day employees reporting to work. All other employees should stay home.
Turner
County schools say that they will be closed to students but asks that staff come in for a workday if conditions allow.
Coffee
County schools have announced that they are also closing due to the inclement weather, but ask that all 12 month administrators report to work as roads permit.
Cook
County schools announced via their
website
that they will be closed on Tuesday.
Baker
County schools have announced that they will be closed as well.
Berrien
County schools will be closed, but faculty is asked to report if possible.
Atkinson
County schools will be closed to students but faculty is asked to report.
Colquitt
County schools announced via their
website
that they will be closed to students and faculty.
Ben Hill
County schools will be closed on Tuesday for students and staff at the recommendation of our EMS director due to prediction of more rain tonight. We want the parents to have time to make arrangements for child care if necessary. It is hard to have a crystal ball to forecast weather and road conditions but want to err on the side of caution.
At this time, schools in Calhoun, Terrell, Lee, Dougherty and Crisp counties will be open to students Tuesday.
FOX 31 will be contacting school systems across Southwest Georgia to find out their status for Tuesday.
