ALBANY, GA --
In our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know whether or not a bar could take your identification if it wasn't yours.

If a bar recognizes a false ID or one that doesn't belong to the person handing it over, officials say they can hold on to it as long as they immediately turn it over to the police.

Captain Tommy Jackson with the Dougherty County Police Department says the best thing for a bar to do is allow officials to handle the situation and avoid getting in a potential confrontation with the person.

Jackson says if you're working in a bar and see a fake ID or someone using one that's not their own, alert the police who can then take control of the situation.

If police identify the license as someone else's, Jackson says the person trying to use it could be charged with identity theft, especially if they are trying to pass it off as their own.
