ALBANY, GA -- As folks around the country are still trying to process what happened with the huge sink hole in Florida, officials in Georgia are realizing that this is an issue that hits close to home, and the same thing could happen here.

Daniel Potter, a battalion chief for the Albany Fire Department, said sink holes are likely to occur here but luckily, first responders are equipped to handle them.

Potter also said the AFD is a class 2 team which means they are equipped with the resources needed in this type of situation. Regionally, we have the Georgia Search and Rescue team which is comprised of multiple specialty departments that are specifically trained to respond to sink holes.
