BACONTON, GA -- St. James Baptist Church in Baconton kicked off their biggest loser competition Sunday afternoon.

The church brought in trainers from Team Lund with Tony's Gym to help teach the congregation about healthy eating tips and exercising.

The competition will run for the next few months and the church as a whole hopes to lose a combined total of at least 2,000 pounds.

Lawrence Knighton, the pastor of the church, says it's important for the community to realize how big of a problem obesity and the consequences that go along with it are in southwest Georgia. Knighton is also doing the competition with church members so he can lead by example.
