LEE COUNTY, GA -- In just three years, Lee County's Buster Posey has hit the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in a Major League Baseball career.

Through it all, the San Francisco Giant has always stayed even keeled. Though, on Thursday night, that may have been tough to do.

Southwest Georgia's World Series champ can now also be called its MVP.

The Lee County native received 27 of 32 first place votes to win the 2012 National League MVP Award ahead of Milwaukee Brewer and 2011 winner, Ryan Braun.

Speaking at Lee County's Transitional Learning Center, Posey celebrated his latest accomplishment (one of many during the 2012 season) with friends and family.

The two-time World Series winner’s trophy case is loaded. For 2012, Posey picked up a Silver Slugger award, the NL batting crown and an all-star appearance.

The 2010 Rookie of the Year award winner was also voted the Willie Mac Award recipient this season. An award based on leadership voted by the Giants players and coaches.

On the field, Posey led San Francisco in almost every statistical category possible, but the biggest one may have been his leadership.

“It was an unbelievable feeling...we really had no inclination going in to it whether I was going to win or not. It made it fun,” Posey said.

“First thing, he's a great guy and he just shows you that you don't have to beat your chest to be recognized. He shows a lot of enthusiasm and it's just a great thing for Buster, Lee County and Lee County baseball,” Lee County baseball coach Rob Williams said.

Posey is the first National League catcher to win the MVP since Johnny Bench in 1972.
