LEESBURG, GA -- Early Sunday morning Leesburg resident Brian Raper was up putting new fog lights on his truck. It’s a precaution after he drove through a major storm Saturday night.

“It was almost like being in white out conditions and I just couldn't see anything,” said Raper.

He was driving near Cordele when he was caught in a hail storm.

“I mean golf ball sized hail and it was actually coming down like rain,” said Raper.

Luckily he was able to find some cover for his truck while the storm passed.

“That stuff it will break your windshield or it will tear your car up, and I’m glad I got covered, because my truck I don't want to see anything happen to it,” said Raper.

"The only damage we're aware of at this point, though, involves several trees being pushed over. One of them was on U.S. 280 East near County Line Rd. and another at 752 Scenic Route.  We've also heard a mobile home was pushed over on Brock Road,” Crisp County Sheriff Donnie Haralson told the Cordele Dispatch.

Raper lives on the same Leesburg street that suffered most of the damage from the storm, residents say they were standing outside when they say a tornado touchdown.

“It sounded like a freight train going outside your house,” said Steven Mathis.

The train of wind did some damage to Groover road. A trampoline was launched into a pond at one house. At the nearby Lee County High School Ninth Grade Campus a metal canopy was ripped to the ground. Officials had cleaned up the mess by Sunday morning.

Residents say the force of nature was an incredible sight to see.

“I looked up behind me, right in that backyard a small funnel came straight down and it touched right in the back of there and it came right back up and then the wind started howling after that,” said Mathis.

“At first I didn't know what was happening, i just heard winds and then my mom told me to come outside and watch,” said Jakob Ganci.

Lee County officials say no one was seriously hurt in the storm.
