Congressman Sanford Bishop surveys flooded neighborhoods around Radium Springs Road.

Residents from Mockingbird Road spoke with Bishop and Dougherty County Public Works Director Larry Cook.  Cook says that the pipe the water was coming through has been boarded up with a steel plate and sandbags.  Congressman Bishop says he passed an earmark for this area to do new flood mapping for emergencies.

“It was either the very last appropriations bill or the one before it. But it takes a little while for the administrative processing to be done for that money to come down and be used and of course after the money comes down, the study has to be done,” said Bishop.

Bishop says the flooding will help with that study so they can take the necessary measures.

Mockingbird Road

Posted by James McLean, United States - Wednesday, April 08, 2009 at 10:53 p.m.

This area was flooded in the 94 disaster. Subsequent pontential flooding was avoided by bull-dozing dirt into the exposed drain pipe then removing blockage after threat was over. This time another procedure of boarding up the drain was followed, but failed and to little to late caused Mockingbird Road to be flooded along with several homes on Barbragale Ave.
