ALBANY, GA. --

After one farmer found success with using Albany State University grant funds, the school is announcing that more farmers will be able to benefit from a second round of grants.

Henry Troutman, 61, benefitted from the first USDA grant received by ASU.

It helped him hold on to his family's small Wilcox County farm that has existed for 150 years.

The grant money has helped him and other farmers boost crop yield and reduce irrigation costs.

Recently the USDA awarded close to $250,000 dollars in grant money to help farmers in 42 eastern Georgia counties.

The ASU grant was among 70 awarded nationally in the competitive process.
