DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -- The
Dougherty County Police Department
is asking for the public's help identifying two people caught on surveillance video working together to steal items from Dollar General located at 2401 Liberty Expressway on January 12th shortly after noon.
Surveillance footage shows a white female, that officials believe is in her early twenties, and a black male in his mid thirties. They entered the store separately, her first and then him later.
Footage then shows the man walking with an empty basket through the store while other cameras captured woman picking up five packs of Hanes t-shirts and four packs of Hanes boxer briefs worth about $70.
The video then shows the man walk out after the placing his empty basket and leave, with the female following him out with the items in a reusable cloth bag.
The Dollar General clerk saw the duo get into a red or burgundy 2009 Chevy HHR and was able to get the tag number. The clerk believes that a third, unknown person was driving.
Officers traced the tag to a rental company who was able to identify the car renter, who was not the woman in the video.
Rental company officials say they were about to report car missing, but authorities located it abandoned on 500 block Swift Street.
Sergeant Chad Kirkpatrick with
Dougherty County Police
says that although the money amount does not seem like a lot, shoplifting is an offense the department is trying to crackdown on. If located, the people pictured will be charged with shop lifting
If you have any information on this case, you are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 229-436-TIPS or the Dougherty County Police Department at 430-6600.
