ALBANY, GA -- While
no one
in Georgia
won
the $550 million dollar jackpot, several players and students did win big from the gargantuan jackpot.
According to Georgia Lottery officials, total sales for the recent
Powerball
roll totaled $42.3 million, resulting in $16.9 million dollars for HOPE scholarships and to strengthen Pre-K programs. They expect this to create 9.171 HOPE Awards and 1,593 Pre-K spots.
David Jackson of Riverdale Georgia picked up the largest individual prize in Georgia with $1 million dollars. A player in Douglasville won $40,000 after his ticket matched several numbers with the power play option on.
33 other Georgia players won $10,000 prizes across the state including players in Columbus, Cordele, Leesburg, Newnan, Sylvester, and Valdosta.
