ALBANY, GA -- Since the program's inception, Darton College wrestling hasn't been a staple of consistency. Newly-hired head coach James Hicks believes he can be the one to change that opinion.
An assistant at Campbellsville University, a small, NAIA school in Kentucky, Hicks was announced to the Darton position on June 23. Even with the quick turnaround, Hicks says he’s seen enough from Albany to stick around for a while.
“I think this program has the potential to be one of the best in the country...and that's my goal…to get it to that point to reach its full potential,” Hicks said.
Being from the south, Hicks is right at home in Southwest Georgia. He thinks the “Good Life City” is a perfect spot to start something great with the Darton wrestling program.
“I'm satisfied being here. I plan on being here for a while and building this program in to a national powerhouse. It's got a lot of potential, it's a real nice school, great people,” Hicks said.
Hicks intends to have a full squad of 40 wrestlers this September estimating that the program retained 95% of the recruits from this past season.
