LEESBURG, GA -- The Lee County Trojans have been waiting for this moment all season- the 5A-Region 1 championship is up for grabs.
The Trojans game against Thomas County Central isn’t the biggest game in the program’s history, but it's high up there for a team setting all kinds of benchmarks.
“People didn't really think that Lee County was a football program, so we came out here (earlier this season) and proved them wrong. But this game (Friday night) is going to be one of the top games in Georgia,” Trojans running back Kenneth Hurley said.
Lee County has reached 6-0 for the first time in school history while posting some of the highest offensive numbers in the state.
Reaching 7-0 will be more meaningful, a win against Thomas County Central puts the Trojans in the region driver’s seat with three games to play. It also moves the Trojans a step closer to their second region championship in school history.
“Defensively, obviously we have to play really disciplined. Everybody's got to do their job and we can't have lapses…special teams we've got to do a great job. We've talked about that all week...everybody's got to be accountable on every play,” Trojans Head Coach Dean Fabrizio said.
The FOX 31 Blitz Game of the Week is scheduled for 8 PM Friday at Trojan Field.
