LEESBURG, GA -- Five games through the season, the Lee County football team hasn't faced much of a challenge. But, as many coaches will say, the true mettle of a team shines through when they must face adversity.

Some adversity may start creeping in this week for the Trojans, but the team is loaded with confidence heading in to region competition. With playoff implications on the line, Lee County opens 5A-Region 1 play Friday with the Hardaway Golden Hawks.

“We, of course, know the importance of it. Your region games are the ones that count toward the playoffs, but we're just approaching it like every other game...same routine, same practice structure,” Trojans Coach Dean Fabrizio said.

It's been a nice run to 5-0 for Lee County. The Trojans rank sixth in the state in scoring offense at 47.2 points a game, and are beating their opponents by 29.8 points a game. Those stats can continue through the region, but the Trojans know the stakes are higher.

“We don't say that these guys are any better or any worse than what we've faced before, we just take it more seriously this week. We don't have a second chance…this counts towards us going to the playoffs and that's what we're trying to do,” Trojans center Robert Hatcher said.

Hardaway is 2-3 after starting the season 2-0. The Golden Hawks losses have been to some of the top teams in the state including a 57-0 loss at Lowndes. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM Friday at Trojan Field.
