ALBANY, GA -- Much like the previous decade, the Deerfield-Windsor football team is pushing toward the top. It's not an exact science, but Knights Head Coach Allen Lowe sees the right pieces for another GISA state run.

“We just feel good about our chemistry. We think that we have a chance to be real good, but we've got to go out and prove that. Nobody else is going to believe it until you go out and whip 'em,” Coach Lowe said.

Eleven starters return providing a healthy mix of experience for the Knights. The talent is there working on repetition is the next step for fall success.

“(We have) pretty good depth in terms of kids that have played football for us on Friday nights, so their knowledge is good. Now, we just have to get their effort on every play,” Coach Lowe said.

Running backs Kh’ron McClain and Ke’Marvin Pitts adds more than a dash of speed for Deerfield. The senior tandem is worthy of some catchy name to describe their talents, but the offensive line has beat them to the punch.

“We call ourselves the "brick squad". We're some strong guys. We're excited and I think we're really united. I think we have a good goal and I think we're going to take it to some teams,” Offensive Tackle Patrick Forrestal.

State champs in 2010. Last season, the knights repeat drive ran out of gas one game short. Nothing can be done about the semifinal loss to Stratford Academy, but the memory is still in the tank.

“I don't like to linger on the fact that we lost to Stratford, but we definitely use it as motivation. They killed us on defense last year just from us not being strong enough,” Forrestal said.

“It's not fun when you don't win that last ballgame, and our goal still is to play in that last game and then you let the chips fall where it may,” Lowe said.
