TIFTON, GA -- An NFL first round draft pick made his way to Tifton Saturday- and he left South Georgia with an honor that can't be taken away.
July 14th, 2012 in Tift County has been changed to C.J. Spiller Day.
The Buffalo Bills and former Clemson running back spent Saturday morning talking with the Tift County youth about following their dreams and staying on the right path. The event was hosted by City Commissioner Melissa Cheevers at Tift County High School.
The ninth overall pick in the 2010 Draft, Spiller, took some time to talk football, as well.
In a June radio interview with NFL Sirius XM radio, Spiller said he believed the Bills were 2012 Super Bowl contenders. Spiller stood by those comments Saturday.
"We split with the Super Bowl runner-ups, in the (New England) Patriots, and had the (New York) Giants on the ropes, who eventually won it. That was the reason I made my comments,” Spiller said.
“I believe you have to speak stuff in to existence and I'm going to continue to say it. I think we're ready for the Super Bowl. We have everything we need to be a Super Bowl Champion,” the Bills back added.
Splitting running back duties with Fred Jackson, Spiller thrived in the final five games scoring a touchdown in each game. Bills Coach Chan Gailey expects to heavily use both backs this season.
