CORDELE, GA -- All-region pitcher Davis Adkins is staying in the Southwest Georgia region to embark on his college career.

The Crisp County senior signed a baseball scholarship with Darton College on Tuesday in Cordele. Adkins anchored the Cougars pitching staff for the last three seasons taking Crisp to back-to-back second round playoff appearances.

The AAA, All-Region 1 pitcher finished his high school career with a 20-5 record and a 0.7 ERA. The senior says the Cavaliers coaching staff made the difference in his Darton decision.

“I know that Coach (Scot) Hemmings turned everything around and that was another good thing that swayed me towards there. He’s a good coach and I’m lucky to be a part of his team. They’re going to get me on a good workout program…strengthen me up…maybe throw a little bit harder and grow in to a good pitcher,” Adkins said.

Adkins expects to be used as a long reliever/spot starter in his first season at Darton. He is the first Crisp County player to sign with Cavaliers baseball under Cougars Head Coach Bill Pate
