OZARK, AL -- Albany State baseball wasn’t the favorite entering this week’s SIAC Tournament, but they’re certainly making teams pay attention now.

After a 10-inning thriller over Miles College in day one, the Golden Rams decisively defeated Claflin University 9-2 on Friday. Albany State moves to within one victory of the championship game. ASU faces Stillman College at 3 PM on Saturday for the title game berth.

Pitcher Demonzio Stubbs led the way for the Golden Rams third victory over Claflin this season. Stubbs pitched a complete game giving up two runs on six hits.

ASU jumped out to a 6-1 lead over Claflin after two innings. Stephen Lightfoot doubled in the first to cap off the first three-run inning. In the second, the Rams scored on a passed ball, an Allen Hardy double and an Eddie Mathis single. Hardy finished 2-3 with three RBI’s and two runs scored.

Stillman defeated Albany State for the SIAC Baseball Championship in 2011. The Golden Rams were swept by Stillman in Ozark earlier this season.
