ALBANY, GA -- The Darton College baseball team faces their first region games of the season this week. The Cavaliers won’t see a better opening test than 2011 NJCAA World Series participant South Georgia College.

“We really don't know what to expect because they've played really good at times and they've played really bad at times. We're hoping they play really bad this week and we can jump out to a 4-0 conference start,” Cavalier Head Coach Scot Hemmings said.

Darton’s confident heading in to the four games with South Georgia. The Cavs finished a challenging non-conference schedule with an 11-6 record.

Consistent pitching from frontline starters Matt Aldrich and Tyler Oglesby navigated the team to a successful first month of the season. Oglesby picked up his sixth win of the season Friday against Lake Michigan.

Sophomore outfielder Kevin Manos is doing his part at the plate. Manos is ranked near the top in the nation in RBI’s with 24 through 17 games.

However, region play is a whole different animal for the team.

“You just can't take any game for granted. You got to understand that non-region...that was good what we did, but it means nothing up to this point. You got to put your best nine out there and go with it,” Cavaliers Pitcher A.J. Sunstrom said.

Darton and South Georgia square off in Douglas Tuesday at 6 PM. The Cavaliers return to Albany for three games against the Tigers Friday and Saturday. Saturday will be a doubleheader starting at 2 PM.
