ALBANY, GA -- A critical win Friday night at Thomasville moved the Albany basketball team in to the AA-1 driver seat. With one more win on the weekend, the Indians could be moving that title out of sight of the opposition.

Albany and Early County were tight until the fourth quarter, but that’s when Albany’s Tim Pierce and Larry Sanford threw the team in to overdrive. Both Indian players nailed clutch baskets in the final eight minutes of the game. Their output drove the team to outscore the Bobcats 22-10 in that decisive quarter.

“Tim was huge again as was Sanford...they have been really huge for us in the fourth quarters of games, and I wish we could get a little bit more throughout the game but in the fourth quarter they have been huge throughout the year- they did it again,” said Albany Head Coach Archie Chatmon after the win.

Albany’s record moves to 10-1, 19-2 with the win. The team faces Brooks County to close out the region schedule next Saturday. The Indians held a one-game advantage in the AA-1 standings over Thomasville before Saturday’s win.

Saturday Local Scores

Boys: Terrell County 51 // Monroe 55
Girls: Terrell County 35 // Monroe 57
Girls: Early County 45 // Albany 56
