ALBANY, GA -- For the first time this season, the Albany State offense did not lead the Golden Rams to a win. Instead, it was the special teams, and sophomore place kicker Brandon Hamilton using his golden leg.

Hamilton nailed four field goals saving the 19-13 win for ASU. While the win wasn’t pretty to the high offensive expectations set by the first seven games of the season- ASU found a way to win.

Credit should go to Clark-Atlanta's defense ranked second in the SIAC in scoring. The Panthers forced the Rams to settle for kicks instead of touchdowns.

Albany State Head Coach Mike White gave his due to the Panthers defense, but couldn’t help looking back on the missed opportunities.

“I think it was a combination, but if we're going the places that we want to go…we're going to have to turn some of those field goals into seven's,” White said.

Albany State played a new quarterback on the final offensive series of the game. Freshman quarterback Blaize Schaeffer saw the snaps under center, instead of the team’s offensive leader Stanley Jennings.

Coach White dismissed the notion of a possible quarterback controversy.

“Coach (offensive coordinator Uyl Joyner) wanted to get (Schaeffer) him some plays and not always put him in at the end and just get him going...Stanley was struggling a little bit and (he) thought it was a great opportunity,” White said.

On Sunday, Jennings acknowledged that he and his coordinator were on the same page.

“We already talked about it, he was telling me that he was planning on getting him in there. I guess that was the time to put him in the game…got to get him ready for next year, so I'm not worried about it at all,” Jennings said.
