ALBANY, GA -- The Darton College women's soccer team, stunned two weeks ago by a shut-out loss to Florida’s Brevard College, have responded in dominating fashion. It seems that shake up was exactly what the Cavaliers needed.
Since the 1-0 home loss to the Titans, the Cavs have posted 30 goals while not allowing a single shot in to their own net. That’s a streak the team hopes to continue this week with the largest challenges of the regular season upcoming.
DC hosts 7-2 South Georgia College on Tuesday, and travel to NJCAA third-ranked Georgia Perimeter on Friday.
South Georgia has not lost a game since its 9-0 blowout loss to Darton on Aug. 31. South Georgia hasn’t played in a week providing the Tigers with plenty of time to prepare for the Cavaliers. Darton believes this week will shape its season, and the plans of a national title.
“I think we're maturing as a team every game and we're at that point I think we're ready for a good test. I think Tuesday and Friday are the perfect match-up for us,” Darton head coach Ken Veilands said.
“If we end up with the wins, it's definitely a huge confidence booster because we know if we can beat (Georgia) Perimeter…there should be no reason we should not go to Nationals,” Darton forward Shelby Bush said.
Tigers and Cavaliers square off from the Darton Soccer Complex at 5 pm on Tuesday.
