ALBANY, GA -- The Deerfield-Windsor football team experienced a unique feeling on Friday night against Stratford Academy.

A regular season loss- the Knights first in two years.

Deerfield’s 14-10 loss to Macon’s Stratford Academy was the team’s first regular season setback since a loss to First Presbyterian on September 4, 2009. The Knights lost that game on the road to the Vikings 24-21.

The 2009 GISA 3A State Final was the last time overall DWS lost a game before Friday night.

In Friday’s final minutes, the DWS offense was unable to convert a fourth down in the Stratford red zone sealing the four-point defeat. Deerfield's 10 offensive points was the team’s lowest offensive output since scoring six in the 2009 season opener vs. George Walton Academy.

Knights head coach Allen Lowe believes the loss to the Eagles will serve as a wake-up call for his team.

“I think it will be good motivation that we need to get back down to what it takes to win...game to game. That's what you got to focus on...you got to focus on the next game,” Lowe said. “The kids will bounce back...they'll be ready to play, and we expect to have a good week of practice. We expect to come out and play a lot harder on Friday.”

Deerfield's home opener is this Friday against Bethesda Day at Webb Memorial Stadium.
