WORTH COUNTY, GA -- Worth County head football Coach Scotty Ward knows pounding the ball works for his Rams team. The third-year head coach has led his group to two straight playoff appearances, so don’t expect a change in coaching philosophy now.

The Rams will once again bring power to the running game. Worth County tailback Ellis Anderson returns to the squad after starting a portion of the last two seasons. However, injuries have sidelined the running back in both seasons.

Worth is confident in their trademark offense, but Ward hopes to work the passing game a little bit more this season.

First-year starting quarterback Tumaz Gant has improved over the summer with seven-on-seven camps. Gant owns the passing pedigree as his father was also Worth County quarterback, but only has one spot start under his belt from the 2010 season.

Ward is pleased with his quarterback’s progress, but still don’t expect an overwhelming passing attack for 2011.

“I think he's progressed as well as you want somebody to progress...he's thrown the ball well. Hopefully it's something we're going to add to our offense, but we're still going to do what we do...which is run the ball. I mean, you're going to line up and pound, pound people and you're going to play action and throw off of that,” Ward said.

Worth County finished 6-5 last season with a first round playoff exit. The Rams lost 21-19 to Thomson in a closely contested game.

The black and gold return 13 starters (seven on offense/ six on defense) from 2010 with the strength coming from the defensive line and secondary.

Worth will open the season on the road at Fitzgerald on Aug. 26. Last season, Worth and Fitzgerald tangled for a double-overtime match-up in the season opener. The Rams won last year 32-26.
