ALBANY, GA -- The Albany State football program named Uyl Joyner as the new Golden Ram offensive coordinator on Friday night. While the title may be new for Joyner, the players he will be coaching certainly aren't.
As the quarterback's coach for the last two seasons, Joyner has seen the Golden Rams immense offensive talent up close, but the returning rams aren't the only players making an impression on the OC.
According to Joyner, newcomers to the receiving corps Ronnie Tubbs and Mike Nelson have made a mark on the offensive depth chart during the spring and summer.
The golden rams are adding to an attack that already led the SIAC in total offense last season with a returning quarterback, running back and two veteran wide receivers. Joyner says all this talent is a blessing, but it's also a curse.
“We have a great corps of receiver, plus a quarterback coming back and Kareem Hess coming back at running back. We have some talent and we have some weapons to use and…I think that's the hardest part of my job. We got eight or nine guys, but we have one ball,” Joyner said.
All those weapons on the offense plus five returners to the defense will anchor the SIAC-favorite Golden Rams team. Practice officially begins on August fourth with the first game of the season on Sept. third in Macon against Savannah State.
