ALBANY, GA -- Coming into the final day of the GHSA grls sate track meet, the Monroe girls found themselves in an unusual spot...in second place of the standings.

However, the Tornadoes had plenty of time to make their push with five events on day three, and the team’s second place stay didn’t last too long.

In Saturday’s first event, Monroe won the 400m relay for the second straight year, and they didn’t look back (literally) at their challengers after that.

Monroe finished with 82 overall points winning its third straight 3A state title at Albany’s Hugh Mills Stadium on Saturday.

Sprinter Maikea Davis was all over the track in four races for Monroe on Saturday. Davis finished second in the 200m dash, buta last second push won the 400m dash by .02 seconds for Davis over Eastside High’s Kimberly Thomas. Destinee Collins finished seventh in the 800m dash.

The Tornadoes capped off the day with a second place finish in the 1600m relay.
