FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA -- It was an uncharacteristic first half to the Albany Panthers – Fayetteville Force game on Saturday night in North Carolina.
There were actually quite a few points on the board as Albany led 34-27 at halftime, but then the Panthers defense that the “Good Life City” knows returned to the turf for the third and fourth quarters.
The Albany Panthers defeated the Fayetteville Force 43-40 for the Panthers sixth victory in six games.
A Panthers field goal with 20 seconds left on the clock broke a 40-40 tie, and the stifling Panthers defense didn’t give Force quarterback Lamar Little much of a chance afterward. Two consecutive Albany sacks ended Fayetteville’s hopes of a comeback as the final seconds dwindled off the clock.
With the win on Saturday, Albany maintains a one-game lead in the Southern Division over the Columbus Lions.
The 4-2 Richmond Raiders visit the Panther-Pit (or the Albany Civic Center, if the nickname doesn’t work for you) next Saturday at 7:30 PM.
Injury note: former Albany State Ram and current Panther Ryan Davis was carted off the field at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The team said Davis sustained a broken ankle.
