ALBANY, GA -- Busy weekend for softball teams in Albany. Albany State and Darton College combined for six games in three days.
Albany State played doubleheaders against Claflin and Clark Atlanta on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Darton College faced Gordon College on Sunday. The two teams exit the weekend successfully with a combined 5-1 record.
Albany State took care of Claflin 10-8 in game one and 9-1 in game two. The Rams returned to their softball complex Saturday afternoon for two against highly-rated Clark Atlanta.
Clark Atlanta demolished ASU in a called- five inning game, 13-2. The Rams responded in the second game early. First inning, Dominique Bryant doubles into left scoring Shaywonna Marks. In the second, ASU played small ball. Shaconna Marks walked to lead off the inning, moved to third by a sacrifice bunt and fly and scored on a wild pitch with two outs. Pitcher Macy Mager pitched a complete game for Albany State, and the Rams earned a split of Saturday’s series 9-1.
Darton College swept Gordon College on Sunday with a great output from Jane Egiazarova. In the first inning of game one, the native Russian, Egiazarova, doubled to score Jordan Cole. That’s all the Cavaliers needed. Pitcher Katy Lewis threw a complete game, three-hitter with 13 strikeouts. DC wins 2-0.
In the second game, Egiazarova went for 2-2 with three RBI’s. The Cavs rolled 9-0. Darton (4-0, 30-7) plays Middle Georgia on Tuesday.
