At Westover High School, some of the Patriot players feel they haven't received proper respect for their successful start to the 2011 season. The Pats have two losses and a star pitcher/right fielder in Robert Daniel.
Daniel threw a five-inning no-hitter earlier this season against Albany, and he planned for such perfection in Thursday night’s game versus Dougherty High at Paul Eames Park.
“Perfect. I want to strike out every batter I face,” Daniel said.
Daniel’s lofty goal died out early as the Patriots gave up at least a run in the first three innings, and trailed 4 to 3 in the top of the fourth.
That’s when, the pitcher, Daniel, bailed himself out as a hitter.
He lined a double to the left field wall which tied the game. Designated Hitter Mitch Barron scored on a short pop fly to give Westover the 5 - 4 advantage, and the Patriots didn’t trail again.
Westover sprinkled on 10 runs in the seventh for a 19 - 8 victory.
