Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter was behind bars after being arrested in the Rio Grande Valley for DWI.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers told Action 4 News that they arrested Carter around 2 a.m. Friday.

A local DPS spokesman said Carter was pulled over by a state trooper on U.S. Expressway 83 in Hidalgo County.

Carter was arrested at the scene and charged with DWI.

State troopers told Action 4 News that Carter was taken to the Mission City Jail but will transported to the Hidalgo County Jail where he will be arraigned on Friday morning.

Carter played as a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys but was forced to leave the NFL due to alleged drug use.

The former NFL player switched to arena football and played briefly for the Kansas City Brigade.

The Rio Grande Valley Dorados signed Carter for their 2009 season.

But Arena Football 2 officials ruled on Tuesday that that he can't play because of league eligibility issues.

Action 4 News will have more details on Carter’s arrest later today.
