DENVER (AP) — Lance Armstrong's plans for an independent drug-testing program have been scrapped because of high costs and nearly impossible logistics.

When he announced his comeback last year, the seven-time Tour de France winner said he wanted to prove he was clean, and was teaming with renowned anti-doping expert Don Catlin.

But Catlin told The Associated Press on Wednesday that after months of negotiations, both sides realized the program wasn't workable. Catlin didn't rule out trying again in 2010. Armstrong's next race is the Tour of California, which begins Saturday.
