SYLVESTER, GA -- Worth County High School is making a change at the head football coach position, and have announced a timeline for the new hire.

Scotty Ward resigned on Friday after four years at the helm of the Rams program. Ward went 20-24 reaching the GHSA State playoffs in all four seasons.

Worth County Athletic Director Sgt. Major Russell Beard hopes to have new head coach in place by the middle of February. The job posting on the Worth County Schools website will run until Jan. 31. While the school plans to interview coaching candidates during the first full week of Feb (7,8 and 9).

Amid several local reports stating Coach Ward was pressured out of the position. Sgt. Major Beard had this to say about the coaching decision:

“Coach (Scotty) Ward did a good job. It was a combination of things…we felt like there were some things that needed to change. He's a good man. We enjoyed having him these four years. It was just time to make a change,” Sgt. Major Beard said.

The upcoming hire will be the sixth Rams head football coach since 2000.
