ALBANY, GA -- It’s been a long three seasons of waiting for the Dougherty Trojan football team, but the curse is finally over.

Dougherty defeated Americus-Sumter Thursday 16-7 for the Trojans first region win since 2009.

Not only had Dougherty lost 15 straight games, but the region losing streak had hit 17 stretching back to a 2009 win over Perry.

The Trojans couldn’t piece together a scoring drive in the first half trailing 7-0, but shut out the Panthers 16-0 in the final two quarters giving Corey Joyner his first win as the Dougherty Head Coach.

Americus-Sumter has lost four straight games and sits dangerously close to missing out on the playoffs for the first time in three years.

Dougherty travels to Cairo for its regular season finale. Americus-Sumter hosts the Crisp County Cougars.
