ALBANY, GA -- Playing short-handed? Not a problem for the Darton State women's basketball team.

Missing sophomore leaders Michelle Mitchell and Chan Fann, the rest of the Lady Cavaliers picked up the slack against Middle Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Thanks to its trademark defense, Darton State moved to 14-2 on the season with an 80-50 win over Middle Georgia Tech. The Lady Cavaliers picked up the transition game in the second half to stretch a 34-19 halftime lead.

“Our kids came back off the break and played really well, executed well. (Saturday) we had to play without Chan (Fann) and Michelle (Mitchell) most of the game. It gave a lot of our kids the opportunity to get some minutes and I thought we responded really well in the second half,” Coach Lea Henry said.

Filling in for Mitchell and Fann, Tamarah Fisher exploded for 26 points with Iesha Bonner adding 17 in the blowout win.

Mitchell played a portion of the first half before being taken out as a precaution. Fann will be checked by doctors on Monday for an apparent knee injury. Coach Henry is hopeful the sophomore will only miss a week or two at the most.
