ALBANY, GA. --

Visitors to Albany will soon have a new place to rest their head.

Land is being cleared in the 2700 block of Point North Boulevard for a Holiday Inn Express.

The hotel will have 80 rooms.

Officials with Albany’s Planning and Development Commission say the building permit has been issued and construction should be underway soon.

“We plan on starting construction next week. We'll have it almost completed by December and we're planning to open up either late December or early January of 2014,” said Anil Maniklal, Legendary Hospitality contractor.

Another hotel is also under construction in north Albany. That structure is half way done.
