TIFTON, GA -- The consensus top high school basketball player in the state of Georgia is heading home, but not in the most literal sense of the word.

For college, Tift County shooting guard Brannen Greene will be playing ball at the home of college basketball.

The state's top recruit for 2013, Greene, officially signed his letter of intent with the University of Kansas Thursday.

The Blue Devil shooting guard spurned offers from UConn, Florida and Louisville for the opportunity to play with the Jayhawks.

A program with so much history, the opportunity for Greene was impossible to pass up.

“It's just an honor going to that program. I just want to contribute in whatever way I can. They've got great history, great tradition, so it's not like I'm adding anything to their program. I'm just joining a part,” Greene said.

“This is a big step to where he wants to go. When I first started to work with him, the number one thing he said is he wants to be a pro on and off the court and I see that everyday,” Tift County Head Coach Eric Holland said.

Coach Holland said it right- Greene is a pro in all aspects.

Scoring over 1400 points in three years of high school, Greene also holds a 4.0 GPA turning down an offer to play at Harvard.
