ALBANY, GA -- Looking back to the beginning of the season, Darton State College Womens soccer hardly recognizes their team.
Now, as Darton State preps for the region tournament, they're back in expected Cavalier form. That expectation from head coach Ken Veilands is to win.
The Lady Cavaliers have done that in recent results winning seven straight games outscoring opponents 42-4 during the streak.
With an admittedly young group, Coach Veilands was forced to work through the peaks and valleys of a season that featured 9 or 10 new starters.
As Darton State College closes in on the most important part of the season, it's up to the players to continue climbing.
“There's always pressure on them in training, pressure on them in the games and the expectations are high. But I think once they started winning they realized the payback. They feel better and things started to click,” Coach Veilands said.
The Region 17 tournament will be played at the Darton Soccer Complex. The Lady Cavaliers face South Georgia College in the semifinals Friday.
The teams split the two meetings of the season with Darton State winning the most recent game 2-0 in Douglas.
