ALBANY, GA -- A unique opportunity awaited the Albany State football team on Saturday night.

Dismissed by North Greenville in the 2011 playoffs, the Golden Rams got another shot at the Crusaders at the ASU Coliseum and the “Dirty Blue” defense set the tone for the 2012 season.

Albany State slowed down North Greenville for a 24-12 season opening victory. The Golden Rams held the Crusaders to three points in the first half.

Running back Nathan Hoyte set the pace with a 47-yard touchdown run in the first quarter giving ASU a 7-0 lead. The Golden Rams never trailed North Greenville only 10 months after allowing 63 points to the Crusaders in the Division Two playoffs.

Albany State travels to Wingate University next Saturday.
