ALBANY, GA -- In the end, family hit closest to home for Albany Panthers Coach Lucious Davis.

The three-year Panthers coach confirmed to FOX 31 on July 4 that he would return to the organization- his Panthers family made it official Tuesday night.

Davis and the Panthers have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension. General Manager Will Carter and Coach Davis announced the agreement at a press conference Wednesday.

One of the main issues between Davis and a run at a third straight indoor football title was time away from his family in Houston, Texas. Carter addressed those concerns in the contract allowing Davis to return home for most of 2012 and throughout the 2013 Panthers season.

“I love it here. I love the organization, I love my players…the city. It's hard to walk away from three years of people supporting you,” Davis said.

A lot of Davis’ support stems from his impressive results with the team.

Davis has won two indoor football championships (a PIFL title and the 2011 SIFL title), three division titles and owns a 32-9 record in his three seasons.

“(He’s) been able to bring us winning seasons consecutive years, two championships. It's a credit to him and his coaching staff and the players for making us successful on the field,” GM Will Carter said.

While Quarterback Cecil Lester, Receiver Antwone Savage and Defensive Lineman Tito Hannah intimated they planned to retire after the 2012 PIFL Championship. On Wednesday, Coach Davis and Carter expressed optimism that some of those players would return, but won’t know for sure until August.
