ALBANY, GA -- Its crunch time for the Albany Panthers and a May 19 post-game brawl will not put a stop to the Panthers championship plans.

The fight that occurred after the final whistle between the Alabama Hammers and Albany Panthers game has resulted in zero player suspensions for either team.

PIFL Communications Director Matthew Hester sent the decision by email to FOX 31 Sports on Wednesday.

“The matter of the post-game fight between Albany and Alabama will be handled internally,” Hester said. “Both teams have been reprimanded for their actions to insure that these types of events do not occur in the PIFL.”

According to Panthers Head Coach Lucious Davis, the May 19 contest had plenty of extracurricular activity. That activity culminated in a large fight between members of both teams after the fourth quarter buzzer had sounded.

The Hammers accused Albany of running up the score during the Panthers 59-40 victory. Davis contends the Hammers had been throwing cheap shots at his players all night.

Currently, the Panthers hold the league’s top seed by a game over the Richmond Raiders with three games remaining. Albany wraps up their regular season home slate with Knoxville on Saturday. Then, travel a tough road to the finish facing Columbus and Richmond away from the Albany Civic Center.

It's a 7:30 PM kickoff at Phoebe Field for Albany and Knoxville. The Panthers defeated the Nighthawks 59-10 in their only meeting this season.
