Sinkholes have been popping up across the southeast, even here in Albany. In the facebook story of the day you wanted to know if they are covered under homeowners insurance.

According to multiple insurance agents around Albany, sinkholes are usually not covered under a basic homeowners insurance.

However, some agencies offer the option for you to endorse sinkholes to be covered under the policy.

"That means for an extra premium you would pay to cover the sink hole, that sink whole premium is not very expensive, most people are surprised to see how low it is," explains State Farm Insurance Agent, Tim Thomas .

Despite the low costs Thomas say’s people generally opt not to endorse sinkholes under their policy.
