ALBANY, GA -- The night before the GISA-AAA State title game, Deerfield-Windsor Head Coach Allen Lowe had a simple message for his Knights…all the hard work is over, just relax and have some fun.
That’s something these senior-laden Knights can do.
“You better take a deep breath and enjoy it. This is the game you want to play in...this is why we practice, play and work hard. You get here and you don't want to not enjoy the moment. We want to go out and relax and play well,” Coach Lowe said.
Deerfield soaked in the final practice of the season Thursday with music underneath Albany’s Webb Memorial lights. On Friday, Deerfield will welcome AAA-newcomer Heritage School to the brightest lights of them all.
Deerfield-Windsor is aiming at its third state title in five years. While Coach Lowe will be roaming the sideline for his fourth possible championship with the Knights.
This is Heritage School’s seventh season of football never reaching this level in their brief history. Deerfield plans to put the pressure on Heritage early, but there’s no pressure on these Knights.
“The seniors know this is it. This is our last hurrah at it and we're just loving every bit of it. We love coming out to practice everyday. We might joke around but we get serious...we know we have to take advantage of this opportunity,” Knights running back Sam Shellhaas said.
