ALBANY, GA -- Saturday night, the Westover Patriots kept pounding and pushing against the Tift County defensive line. In the end, the Patriots pushed through for a season opening win.

Westover ruined the debut of Tift County head football coach John Reid defeating his Blue Devils 33-29 at Albany’s Hugh Mills Stadium.

Tift County led 14-13 at halftime, but the Patriots set the tone early in the third quarter.

Westover recovered a Tift County fumble by quarterback Ryan Wedgeworth deep in Blue Devils territory. Keeping the ball on the ground, Patriots quarterback T.J. Wester scored on a quarterback sneak for a 19-14 lead.

Westover returns to Hugh Mills Stadium on Friday hosting Jonesboro. Tift County travels to Houston County.
