ALBANY, GA -- After accomplishing the dream of winning an Olympic gold medal, Darton College Basketball coach Lea Henry always dreamed about creating a basketball camp.

Coincidentally, it was that 1984 USA Olympic run that started the Camp of Champs for Coach Henry.

Now in its 27th summer, Coach Henry’s camp continues to teach kids from 5 to 18 the fundamentals and skills of basketball.

This week's camp at the Deerfield-Windsor school opened Tuesday and concludes Friday clinging to the same, simple ideals of the game.

“(Basketball camps) were a chance to just play and have fun, meet new people and just get better at the game. I always said that as soon as I finished playing…that I wanted to start a camp, so the Camp of Champs started 28 years ago,” Henry said.

The summer has only begun for Coach Henry- many more camps are on the way.

The Darton College Summer Camp tips off July 23 through July 26. The four-day camp opens at Cavalier Arena for kids of all ages. Registration costs $150.
