ALBANY, GA -- Westover defensive tackle Chris Green inked a scholarship to Lenior-Rhyne Friday afternoon. Great for the Patriot football player and his family, but it was the journey to the scholarship that made the signing so special.

After a stellar 2011 season, the AAA-Region 1 Defensive Player of the Year was sidelined with an injury far away from the football field. Dealing with intestinal problems, Green was forced to go under the knife for the issue.

Green spent two and a half weeks in the hospital and subsequently two and a half months out of football training. Through it all, Lenoir-Rhyne maintained contact with the two-time All-Region player even calling while Green was in the hospital.

During the season, Green led the Patriots defensive line on the field and in the locker room finishing the season with 87 tackles, six sacks and a forced fumble. Patriots Head Coach Octavia Jones said the tackle held interest from several schools including Georgia State, Tennessee State and Troy University.

Lenoir-Rhyne sticking with their coveted recruit- stuck with Green as he signed his scholarship.

“Coach (Octavia) Jones used to say "Football is business" and I never really realized that until I had my surgery, and it felt good to know that somebody was there with me through thick and thin even though there was a possibility I might not be able to play,” Green said.
