ALBANY, GA -- The time barely moved, but the innings kept flying by for the Deerfield-Windsor baseball team. Deerfield and Arlington Christian paced through three and a half innings in 50 minutes staying tied 0-0.
But in the bottom of the fourth, the Knights dug in and scratched three runs across on their way to a 4-1 win over Arlington Christian. With the victory, Deerfield owns a one game advantage in the best-of-three GISA State Baseball Playoff opening series.
Knights starting pitcher Austin Murphy went the distance for Deerfield allowing one run. Weston King picked up two RBI's on his fourth inning single past a drawn-in Arlington Christian infield.
After a series of third inning errors by the Knights defense, Murphy faced a bases loaded situation with one out. The Deerfield ace handled the situation masterfully getting Arlington Christian to ground in to a taylor-made double play.
Deerfield attempts to close the series Saturday at 1:30 PM. The "if necessary" game would follow from the Deerfield campus.
