CAMILLA, GA -- Mitchell County High School is close to hiring a new head football coach and athletic director to replace Dondrial Pinkins.

Former North Murray head football coach Larry Cornelius has been recommended by the school to take charge of the Eagles program. According to Friday’s Mitchell County Board of Education work session agenda, the term of the agreement is 11 months.

“Obviously, we have to have a football coach, and we went through our normal process to recommend one,” Mitchell County High Principal Robert Adams said.

The hiring is pending approval by the Mitchell County School Board and Superintendent Victor Hill. A board meeting will be held tomorrow night- one topic to be discussed is the hiring of Cornelius.

Cornelius coached the AA-North Murray Mountaineers from 2010-2011. In those two seasons, the team finished with a 1-19 record. As a new school in 2009, Cornelius was in charge of the program during its first two varsity seasons.
