ALBANY, GA -- Darton College baseball knows about rain delays and cancellations.

Tuesday’s loss to ABAC cancelled their seven- game winning streak, and thunder storms delayed the first pitch for two hours. That defeat was only the second conference loss of the season- the Cavalier outlook is still looking good.

The Cavs hold a three game lead over Middle Georgia with one month left on the schedule. Though, Darton’s remaining schedule will clear up the top of NJCAA Region 17. The Cavs’ final two series are against the teams directly trailing in the standings, Middle Georgia and Georgia Perimeter.

“No matter what happens this weekend. We still leave the fifth week of the season in first place. We control our destiny the last three weeks,” Darton Head Coach Scot Hemmings said.

In its first season under Hemmings, the team has made tremendous strides garnering its first national ranking in program history. With their 27-9 record, the Cavalier players have more on the mind than just the GCAA title.

“We want to go all the way, we want to be in Colorado playing for that World Series and we're just playing for it, playing hard, working as a team...doing everything we can,” Cavalier infielder Cody Wofford said.

Darton finished off their week of practice working in the batting cages. The team stays at Cavalier Field for the weekend finishing the four game series with ABAC. The Stallions have struggled this season to a 5-12 conference record. Game one between the teams begins Friday at 6 PM.
