ALBANY, GA -- The Albany State men's basketball team is working its way through a tough four-game road trip. At least, the Golden Rams have already faced the worst of the trek.

Albany State started hot defeating the top SIAC team in Benedict College Thursday, but came up just short in overtime against the second place Paine Lions Saturday. The Golden Rams had an opportunity to seal a 2-0 start, but missed on a last second shot in regulation.

ASU returned to Albany for a Sunday afternoon practice before beginning the final portion of the trek. The Golden Rams face Lane College Tuesday and wrap up with Kentucky State Thursday.

Head Coach Chris Cameron is finally seeing his team’s defensive efforts pay off holding both Benedict and Paine to 35% from the field. If the Rams could have controlled a higher amount of offensive rebounds against Paine, Cameron believes his Rams would still be spotless.

“With us not crashing the boards like we needed to, it's almost like we gave that game away. We know we can play better, so from that perspective it's good because if you eliminate that- then that's probably a win for us,” Cameron said.

The Rams were outrebounded by the Lions 51-40, and 22-16 on the offensive glass

The ASU Lady Rams are going through that same stretch on the road. The Lady Rams are also 1-1 after a win over Paine Saturday.

There may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Both teams have a favorable schedule to close out the season. The men will play nine of their last 13 games at HPER Gym. The women play eight of their final 11 in the friendly confines.
