ALBANY, GA -- The Monroe Tornado basketball team hasn’t played a game in 24 days due to scheduling conflicts. The last time Monroe took to the hardwood was a scrimmage against Tift County on Nov. 12.

“There's only so much you can practice,” Tornado head basketball coach Marquis Davis said.

Finally on Tuesday, the Tornadoes get to face a team wearing a different colored jersey. Monroe hosts Americus-Sumter in their regular season opener. It's first of two region games this week for the Tornadoes.

Davis is confident his squad can shake off the rust, but still has some obvious concerns entering Tuesday’s game against the Panthers.

“There's nothing like game action...you can do whatever in practice...simulate all you want, but there's nothing like those game situations,” Davis said.

“This year didn't go as planned, so I guess we just got to wait and play Americus tomorrow...it's a region game so we got to go out there and play because that's a big game,” Tornado Small Forward Jabari McGhee said.

Monroe plays Crisp County in Cordele on Friday in game two of their region schedule.
