CAMILLA, GA -- The GISA-A Westwood Wildcats have some kind of streak going. The Wildcats have wedged one state title between winning 25 straight football games- a streak that dates back to November of 2009.
However, its win number 26 that could trump them all. A win on Friday night would bring another state championship to the Camilla private school.
For back-to-back championships, Westwood faces a rematch from last year's GISA-A title game against Memorial Day. A game the Wildcats won 31-12 in Savannah.
These squads were destined for a rematch all season.
Westwood has dominated most of their 2011 opponents with their only single digit win coming last week against Thomas Jefferson. However, the Matadors have been equally impressive facing single-A competition averaging 59 points a game.
Wildcats Head Football Coach Ross Worsham knows what is at stake this week, but is playing it cool in regards to the big win.
“It's a challenge for us, it hopefully motivates us. Yea, we've won 25 in a row but we want to win the 26th one. That's the focus right now...those 25 are great but that's behind us. This one that would make 26…is the one that's most important,” Worsham said.
The Wildcats host this year's championship rematch with the Matadors. Kickoff is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 PM from Camilla's Centennial Stadium.
